Absinthe was found to be much more harmful than other spirits by the testing done by Magnan on the thujone content in it. He and others in the medical profession were influenced that psychedelic effects were caused by thujone. Absinthe was therefore banned.
In 1975, a nature magazine claimed that thujone molecule and THC have the same structure so they acted in a similar manner.
All these claims are away from reality. Although thujone is active on the GABA receptors of the brain when consumed in large quantity but there is no similarity between thujone and THC. After testing Absinthes it has been proved that the quantity of thujone in it is very small to be harmful. Due to intake of enough quantity of Absinthe one will die of alcohol poisoning before experiencing effects from thujone!
